A day in the life and home of a child in an informal settlement
This morning I woke up a little earlier than usual. It was cold outside and I had no blanket. So I could not fall back to sleep. Then I was just sitting in bed and waiting for morning. But after a while I got thirsty. So I thought about getting some water but I had no shoes so I did not want to go because I didn’t want to get sick.
A few hours later it was time for me to go to school. When I got there it was cramped. Their is never enough chairs so some of us kids have to go on our knees. But after a while it starts hurting. It is usually hard to focus because everyone has to share 1 textbook.
A few hours later it was time to go home. So now I had to
walk a long way to go back home. When I got home my mom was cooking some rice and it smelled great. Then I went to the toilet and it was disgusting because it was a long drop toilet wich is dangerous for little kids. I did not want to get sick so after I used it I ran to the tap so I could wash my hands and I did not want to make other people sick because I know that there is only 1 doctor for 3000 people. On the way home I saw some kids making toys out of all the rubbish. I helped them make a few and then I went home. The food was ready so I ate and brushed my teeth and went to bed. I was hoping I would sleep a little longer than I did the night before. But other than all the bad stuff there is some really nice things to do here in the informal
settlement. I wish that the people here had more food and
bigger income to pay for a proper school. It also would be nice if we had some warm shoes to wear when we go to school in the cold mornings. But I am still glad to have what I have.

The Music Inspector
The Music Inspector
My name is Benny. Last week the Music inspector came and I was absolutely terrified. He always wears stockings like a hunting man. He has got golden curls. His beady eyes are the colour of blue gooseberries.
When he was standing right in front of us he asked me and Charles to sing a song.I told him that we did not know any songs. Then Charles said we can sing Pretty Polly. Then Mr R shouted Sing it! I sang it in a squeaky voice because I was so scared.
Then when Charles and I were out of breath Mr R shouted “A waste of my time, a waste of time”. He also called us voiceless idiots. And then he said “send them out”. And now you shall only do exams. I would much rather do exams than have to sing.

Gr.4 Simonsberg camp😀✌️🎶
We left school on Wednesday 1st March. And came back on Friday 3rd March. We were going to Simonsberg Christian Centre. On the way there I sat next to Dylan Jacobs. Before we got to the camp site we went to the Giraffe House. We saw giraffes, jackels, zebras, lots of different species of birds, kudus, monkeys, goats, ostriches, snakes, spiders and lots more! We also got ice-cream. Then we went back to the bus. We were now going to the camp site, which is 10 minutes away from the Giraffe House. When we got to the camp we took our bags of the bus. Then we went to our rooms,I was in a room with Dylan,David and Rorke. Then we had to wait for Mrs.Coetzee to blow the whistle so we could go out of our rooms. When she did blow it she took us on a walk around the camp and told us where we could go and where we couldn't go. Then we had free time and I played and built a fort with a team and we could eat our snack. Then we played a game called s t o p stop. This is how you play it...
There is one person that stands at the front and says S T O P stop. Then everyone else has that is standing at the back walks toward the person at the front but when the person at the front says STOP everyone has to freeze. If any of the people move they have to go to the back. After we played that we played a game called Wilson. Then when we finished it was 4:30pm and Mrs.Coetzze and Mr.Bellwood took the people that wanted to swim took them swim I was 1 of the people that swam.
10 minutes before dinner Mr.Bellwood told us to get out of the swimming pool. When we finished we went to dinner. We ate spaghetti and a very nice sauce with vegetables. After that we went on a hike.
When we got back it was 9:23pm and we played 2 games. When we finished we went to bed because it was 10:30pm.In the morning I played in the forest. At 8:00am it was breakfast. We had corn flakes and rice crispies. After that we played mingle-mingle. Then we were put into groups. My group had 12 people in it. The other groups had 13 or 14 people. After that Alan (the leader of all the groups) said we have to remember the people in our group because that is our groups for the rest of the camp.
Then we had free time and I played in the forest (as usual). Than we started our activities. The firstactivity we did was the obstacle course. It was really fun.

Gr.4 L.I.T🎶😀✌️Day 1
I enjoyed all the activities that we did today. The first activity was the survivor map work.
And it was really FUN. When we finished it was first break and I stayed in the drama room (as usual)and talked to my friends. When break was finished we all got back to class and started the next activity it was a treasure hunt. Mrs.Coetzze gave us clues that were written down on a piece of pink paper. It was actually really nice and it is actually my favorite activity that we did today. I managed to find all 8 items. It was a bit hard. Once we were done we had to list everything in order from most to least important.

Endangered animal research
A Rhino can live for 35 to 50 years.
Rhinos live in the grasslands and flood plains of Eastern and Southern Africa.
A Rhino weighs 800 to 1,400 kg.
A Rhino is a herbivore which means they only eat plants and grass.
A Rhino is endangered because of poaching. I chose a Rhino because it is a butyful animal.
A Rhino is 1.3 to 1.8 meters tall.
